To investigate the ability of free induction decay navigator (FIDnav)-based motion monitoring to predict diagnostic utility and reduce the time and cost associated with acquiring diagnostically useful images in a pediatric patient cohort.
A study was carried out in 102 pediatric patients (aged 0-18years) at 3T using a 32-channel head coil array. Subjects were scanned with an FID-navigated MPRAGE sequence and images were graded by two radiologists using a five-point scale to evaluate the impact of motion artifacts on diagnostic image quality. The correlation between image quality and four integrated FIDnav motion metrics was investigated, as well as the sensitivity and specificity of each FIDnav-based metric to detect different levels of motion corruption in the images. Potential time and cost savings were also assessed by retrospectively applying an optimal detection threshold to FIDnav motion scores.
A total of 12% of images were rated as non-diagnostic, while a further 12% had compromised diagnostic value due to motion artifacts. FID-navigated metrics exhibited a moderately strong correlation with image grade (Spearman’s rho≥0.56). Integrating the cross-correlation between FIDnav signal vectors achieved the highest sensitivity and specificity for detecting non-diagnostic images, yielding total time savings of 7% across all scans. This corresponded to a financial benefit of $2080 in this study.
Our results indicate that integrated motion metrics from FIDnavs embedded in structural MRI are a useful predictor of diagnostic image quality, which translates to substantial time and cost savings when applied to pediatric MRI examinations.

Ultrashort echo time (UTE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a promising technique for pulmonary imaging in this population without requiring exposure to ionizing radiation. The aims of this study were to investigate the effect of neonatal pulmonary disease on R2 * and tissue density and to utilize numerical simulations to evaluate the effect of different alveolar structures on predicted R2 *.This was a prospective study, in which 17 neonatal human subjects (five control, seven with bronchopulmonary dysplasia [BPD], five with congenital diaphragmatic hernia [CDH]) were enrolled. Twelve subjects were male and five were female, with postmenstrual age (PMA) at MRI of 39.7 ± 4.7 weeks. A 1.5T/multiecho three-dimensional UTE MRI was used. Pulmonary R2 * and tissue density were compared across disease groups over the whole lung and regionally. Adaptive functioning is an important area of assessment with implications for differential diagnosis, educational placement, service eligibility and criminal sentencing. While periodic normative and content updates of adaptive functioning measures are necessary to keep measures relevant, knowledge of equivalence between versions is also required if adaptive measures are to be used to track the stability of adaptive functioning skills over time.
This paper presents two studies that used between-group and within-group comparison designs to examine the equivalence of the second and third editions of the Adaptive Behavior Assessment System (ABAS) in a mixed clinical sample. In study 1, ABAS-2 scores for children assessed between 2014 and 2015 (n=1036; mean age=10.24, SD=3.44) were compared with ABAS-3 scores for children assessed between 2015 and 2016 (n=1291; mean age=10.51, SD=3.70). Study 2 examined a separate sample of clinically referred children (n=572) for whom parent ratings had been obtained on both score changes across ABAS versions in the course of clinical, educational and forensic assessments.
The ABAS-3 scores may be higher than ABAS-2 scores in clinical populations. Knowledge of these potential discrepancies will be critical when interpreting standard score changes across ABAS versions in the course of clinical, educational and forensic assessments.
Improving the academic achievement of youth in the United States is an area of interest and a critical indicator of the future success of the youth. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of a comprehensive school physical activity and healthy eating program on 5th-grade students’ academic achievement, specifically reading and math.
Overall, 628 (intervention 377, 54% girls; comparison 251, 49% girls) 5th-grade children participated across the 6 schools in a year-long comprehensive health intervention, completing curriculum-based academic achievement measures at 2 time-points.
Results showed that even after controlling for class clustering, age, sex, race, and T1 reading and math variables, students’ T2 reading and math achievement were significantly higher in the intervention group than the comparison group.

MEDLINE, EMBASE, PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane CENTRAL, and three clinical trial registries, were searched from inception to December 2019, without restriction by language or publication year. find more Randomized controlled trials comparing the use of barbed suture with conventional sutures in closure of any layer (uterine/fascial/skin) during cesarean delivery were included. The safety outcomes included estimated blood loss, pain, mortality, and other morbidity including infection, re-operation or re-admission. Effectiveness outcomes included closure time, need for additional suture and scar integrity. Study selection, data extraction, risk-of-bias, and quality assessment were independently performed by two authors.
